By embracing a method of simple storytelling I explore how selecting a story of personal importance, paring the story down to its simplest elements, and telling the story through intentional and carefully considered design choices motivated not by the artist’s perceived role within the art community but by the needs of the story, make it possible to provide the opportunity for an experience which is received individually, but understood universally in a way that makes it a motivator for change.
An image of an event poster showing a line-drawn tiger burned into wooden paneling. There is a QR code in the bottom left corner. Text on the poster reads: Panthera Tigris: An MFA thesis by Kayleigha Zawacki. September 3-4 and 7-9, 2021 at the Joan and Edgar Booth Theater. Register at PantheraTigrisMFA.com.
Panthera tigris - 2021

An immersive multimedia art installation event utilizing scenic, lighting, projection, sound, and content design combined with repurposed materials to tell a story about tiger conservation and sustainability.
An event poster with a mostly-black background. It is an image of a woman silhouetted against a colorful sculptural item shaped like a tall pyramid with light shining though it. The structure is made up of colorful transparent squares. The text on the poster reads: A Lighting Thesis/Exhibition Presented by Kayleigha Zawacki. Light Conversations. Light as Art. Art as Change. March 28-30th, 2014. The poster also includes the event address and times.
Light Conversations - 2014

A gallery-style presentation of artworks featuring light as a kinetic artist medium to captivate the modern-day viewer and offer social commentary. Through these works, light inspires important contemporary conversations.
An event poster. The background is a texture created from overlapping newsprint inverted to make the text white and lightened so that you can read text on top of it. The words BETWEEN THE CRIMES overlay this background text. These are cut of out newsprint. Additional black text reads: An Exhibition of Artworks Illuminating Positive Boston Headlines and Celebrating Good News In Our Community By Local Mixed Media Artist Kayleigha Zawacki. Located inside Spectacle Eye across from the Boston Center for the Arts.
Between the Crimes - 2014

A Boston eyeglass shop installation combining recycled materials such as Boston Globe newspapers and reclaimed theatre lighting gels with photography and light to present a more positive lens through which to view the community.

Small projects.

A square image of an orange origami pumpkin wearing a black origami witch hat and sitting on top of a cut-out black tag that reads #GiveGourdness in metallic silver lettering. The pumpkin sits on a rock. It has a smiling face drawn onto it in black.
"Give Gourdness" - 2020

A small local experience designed to facilitate a sense of joy and community during the 2020 pandemic quarantine.
